what are your thoughts on home schooling?

we had a few in one congregation i was in that practiced home schooling for their kids.

i kina think home schooling is isolationists and for loons.

With a couple of notable exceptions the results of home schooling that I've seen have been at the best mediocre. Two exceptions, one non-Witness family with a PhD father and a mother with a degree in education, very bright people, very bright kids. One Witness family, no degrees but smart and studious, mother worked very hard indeed and academically the kids were first rate but social skills weren't too good. The best of the rest have received pretty minimilist educations. I hate it personally. My experience with the public school systems has been extremely positive, very high academic standards and they bend over backwards to accomodate those with different cultures, faiths, etc.

Evil CO's wives

does anyone remember particularly evil wives of circuit overseers?.

i remember one, a little chinese "lady" known as norma.

absolutely hated kids.

I've known several COs wives that were absolutely horrible. One that was a certifiable alcoholic but also treated everyone like dirt. One that sends letters to congregations just like here husband does, that's a new one.

Would some of us be better off as Witnesses?

i have often wondered if many people would be better off if they stayed witnesses.

some people i have known have really gone off the deep end after they left the watchtower.

most all of my family have left now (not due to me as i was cut off from them for years) and many others i know who have left are now bitter atheists or have become pagans and worship stones or new ageers playing with crystals.

The coming "disassociations"

i have seen several threads about how the elders are going to be going around asking people if they still consider themselves to be jehovah's witnesses.

this will undoubtedly result in multiple da announcements in the coming months.

i'm curious how the average jw will perceive this and respond to it.

New to JW and looking for the right associations.

i have been studying to become a witness for about 1yr now and am doing what i can to become clean to be baptised.

unfortunately almost all of my friends were bad associations and i don't deal with them anymore.

i am looking for people to chat with who have the same goals in mind that i do.

this business about meeting with inactive ones after the first of the year is pretty general knowledge but I haven't received even a hint from usually reliable and forthcoming sources that there's any more to it than just calling on people and trying to get them active again. has anyone seen or heard anything definitive on this or it all just the usual speculation?

Overseer's Visit & Hypocrisy

why is it that when the overseer visits the congregation, that just about everybody shows up to the meetings and they all go in the field service?

a whole week of endless zeal just to prove that they are all so spiritual.

is gone, they all come back to normal.

All the ones that are always late show up early, and the ones who never answer are waving their hands around. It's real funny if you have the right perspective.

1. it's a big surprise if they give you a direct answer.. 2. if you corner them they will resort to one of three things: 1) say the scripture is a bad translation (of course the verses they quote are always perfect translations); 2) they change the subject; 3) they start playing word games with you.. 3. many of them view traditions and other writings by famous jws as having more authority than the word of god.. 4. their doctrine completely conflicts with bible doctrine.. 5. the watchtower is their head (athough the bible says christ is the head of the church)
